2010 Business of the Year Award:

It is gratifying for F.N. Smith Corporation to be recognized by Oregon Chamber of Commerce as “2010 Business of the Year ”. This is a completely unexpected event in the life of our corporation and was made possible by the efforts of all our employees that have been diligent in our training process. Politicians, economists and the news media have been stating for years that manufacturing is dead in the United States. We have all been given the impression that if you are making your career in manufacturing that it was likely dead end or second class. What many are now coming to realize that manufacturing is alive and well providing some form of job education and training becomes part of the model for success. This type of training is necessary to keep our workforce competitive in today’s world marketplace. Our company educates all of our employees at a college level, we pay for tuition and books and encourage a lifelong commitment in keeping up with changes in technology. We are accredited by the U.S. Board of Labor for our apprenticeship program that helps our people grow with the demands of a new manufacturing environment.

We would like to thank the Oregon Chamber of Commerce and the City of Oregon for this recognition.

FNSC Apprentices Complete Important Project / FNSC Historic Vehicle Wins 1st Place in Autumn on Parade Festival:

In 1949 the previous owner of our facility, The Quaker Oats Company purchased a 1949 Ford F-6 "Snub-Nose" to support their manufacturing operation. The Ford filled that roll for years well into the 1960's until it was put out to pasture and kept on site as a yard truck to shuttle materials between buildings. As the business transitioned from Quaker to F.N. Smith Corporation minor maintenance was performed on "Old Whitey" over the years with the thought that one day a full restoration would be performed.

Finally in 2009 after 60 years of dedicated service the truck was fully restored. The work was performed in house at F.N. Smith Corp by our apprentices and guided by those on our management staff that have a lot of automotive rebuilding and racing experience. The project is a symbol of how training, education and apprenticeship can gain insight from working on old technology like a 49 Ford.

Soon after the completion of the project the truck took first place in the category of antique vehicle at the Oregon, Illinois "Autumn on Parade" festival.

Whitey is an intact example of a 49 snub nose with original 239 Flathead V-8, 4 speed and 2 speed rear axle.
