At F.N. Smith Corporation, we place a strong emphasis on employee training in order to continually upgrade the level of service to our customers by going well beyond standard shop floor experience. Our apprenticeship program is taken in 2, 4, or 6 year terms.  Some of our Journeymen have gone on to become our engineers.

First two years are for basic skills, shop training, accompanied with schooling from a local technical college. At the end of year 2, the apprentice must decide to continue with the program and graduate from a machine builder to a journeyman. Years three and four are used for computer training and continued on the job training. After completion of the four year program, the apprentice gains certification from the U.S. Board of Labor. Following certification, the apprentice can continue training and schooling in specialty skill development, PLC electrical assembly, hydraulic and pneumatic machine building, and the other necessary skills needed to become a full fledged engineer.
